Ortal Wilderness 68
The Ortal Wilderness 68 is a linear direct vent gas fireplace. Ortal's Wilderness burner runs the flame up through the log set instead of along a bed in front of it, so the fire reads much closer to wood than a typical linear gas fireplace. It still has the clean steel frame and large glass Ortal is known for, and it runs on natural gas or propane.
This is the standard height version of the 68 inch Wilderness, the lowest glass of the three heights, a wide ribbon of fire. You can order it front facing, as a left or right corner or three sided. The front is either Ortal's double glass heat barrier, which keeps the outer glass cool enough to touch, or a micro mesh protective screen.
This size needs a power vent. Ortal does not allow a passive vent run on it, so the vent fan, its wiring and a 120 volt circuit are part of every install and we plan for them from the start. The power vent kit is ordered with the fireplace and shows as its own line on the quote.
What Makes the Wilderness 68 Different
- Wilderness burner. Flames come up through the logs for a wood-fire look.
- Power vent required. A separate power vent kit is required on this size, which also gives more freedom in where the vent terminates.
- Four ways to set it in the wall. Available front facing, as a left or right corner or three sided.
- Glass or screen. Double glass heat barrier or micro mesh screen, your choice.
- App control. Remote, wall switch and Wi-Fi app are all included on the Wilderness line.

Input and efficiency figures are Ortal's published ratings. How much warmth you feel depends on the room, the configuration, the venting and how the fireplace is set up.
Ortal fireplaces are built to order, so the configuration, heat barrier, interior and fire bed all get chosen before it ships. We measure the space, plan the vent run, confirm the clearances against the Ortal installation manual, and handle the install and the service afterward.
