What Photos Do We Need for a Fireplace or Stove Quote?

Good photos can answer a lot of questions before anyone visits the house. You do not need professional pictures. Clear phone photos from the right angles are usually enough to help us understand the project.

If You Have an Existing Fireplace

  • A straight-on photo of the entire fireplace from several feet back
  • A closer photo of the fireplace opening and hearth
  • A photo looking up into the fireplace with the damper open, if it can be done safely
  • Photos of the mantel, trim, nearby woodwork and anything close to the opening
  • A photo of the outside chimney from far enough back to see the roofline and chimney height

If There Is a Basement or Chimney Cleanout

Photograph the cleanout area and enough of the surrounding basement wall that we can understand where it is. If there are multiple cleanouts, show all of them so we can tell which flue serves the fireplace and which may serve another appliance.

If You Want to Add a Freestanding Stove

  • A wide photo of the room and proposed stove location
  • The wall behind the proposed stove location
  • The ceiling above it
  • The exterior wall or roof area where venting or chimney may pass
  • Any nearby doors, windows, stairs or combustible trim

If This Is a New Build or Remodel

Send the plans if you have them, plus photos of the framing or room as it exists today. The earlier we can see the project, the easier it is to plan venting, framing and finishing around the appliance.

Measurements That Help

  • Fireplace opening width and height
  • Firebox depth
  • Rear width if the fireplace tapers inward
  • Hearth depth in front of the opening
  • Mantel height and projection
  • Room dimensions if you know them

You do not need every measurement before contacting us. Start with what you have, and we will tell you what else would help.
