If you want a wood fire that takes center stage, the Renaissance Rumford 1500 is built for it. The door opening is 42 3/4 inches wide and 42 inches tall, and the firebox is set up in the classic Rumford shape: wide at the front, narrower at the back, and shallow, so the fire sits right out where you can see it.
There's no bulky frame around the glass. The guillotine door and firescreen lift up and out of sight, and Renaissance says the door opens with just a finger. The firebox and chimney are highly insulated, so they warm up fast and the fire is easier to get going than in a typical fireplace. You choose the lining, brick or herringbone vermiculite, to suit the room.
This listing is the Renaissance Rumford 1500 wood-burning fireplace (SKU RSF RR1500B), sold as the fireplace body; lining sold separately. Choose refractory brick (RSF RB1500) or vermiculite panel (RSF VP1500), and plan on required 12 in ICC RIS chimney components. Cast iron andirons come standard.
The emissions numbers come from Renaissance's testing with the vermiculite panel lining. Your own results will depend on the home, the chimney, how it's installed, and how the fire is run.
The Rumford 1500 can be converted to vented gas logs, but a gas log lighter isn't permitted because it would burn out prematurely. We provide support after the sale.
Compare the Rumford 1500 with our other wood-burning fireplaces, or stop by our Auburn, Brunswick, and Yarmouth showrooms. We'll walk you through lining choices, chimney planning, framing, and installation.
