The Vermont Castings Defiant is a large catalytic wood stove built for long burns and big loads. It has a 3.25 cubic foot firebox that takes logs up to 25 inches, a ceramic catalyst for a long, clean burn, and a peak output rating of 56,000 BTU/hr. Vermont Castings rates its maximum burn time at 14 hours.

Loading and cleaning are easy. You can load from the top, which keeps smoke and ash contained, and the swing-out ash pan lets you empty ashes even while the stove is hot. Choose Classic Black with Traditional or Transition doors, or one of three enamel colors: Bordeaux, Majolica Brown, or Twilight.

What Makes the Defiant Different

• Top loading. Lift the top to load wood, which keeps smoke and ash in the stove and lets you fit a fuller load.
• Catalytic combustion. A ceramic catalyst adds efficiency, and the Defiant is certified to the EPA 2020 standard at 1.3 g/hr.
• Swing-out ash pan. Remove ashes cleanly, even when the stove is hot.
• Enamel colors and door styles. Four finishes and two door styles on Classic Black let you match the stove to your room.

Ownership & Maintenance

Like any catalytic stove, the Defiant's catalyst should be inspected periodically and will eventually need replacement. The Defiant is not approved for use with a spark screen. If you buy the stove from us, you'll have ongoing service for our customers.
