An unused wood fireplace can become an easy, remote-controlled gas fire with the Valor RetroFire. Valor designed it for existing masonry and factory-built wood-burning fireplaces, and it frames a 21-1/2 by 11-3/4 inch fire over your choice of driftwood or traditional logs.
On natural gas, this RF24JDN runs from 6,500 to 20,000 Btu/h input, so it can idle at a low flame or run full. What sets it apart is the venting choice. Each RetroFire needs a slider plate, sold separately: the RA24CL co-linear plate with Valor's AutoFire, or the RA24CA co-axial plate. Valor rates the two setups differently, and we'll explain the trade-off.
This listing is the Valor RF24JDN RetroFire direct vent insert engine for natural gas. A slider plate (RA24CL or RA24CA) and a log kit are required and sold separately.
These are Valor's ratings for each vent plate. Your results depend on the room, how the house is laid out, the installation, and how the fire is used.
If you add the optional 555CFK fan, it isn't controlled by the remote and it needs a grounded power source. Hearth Doctor customers get support after the sale.
Bring us your fireplace measurements and we'll help with the plate choice, liners, logs, and fret. Browse more Valor fireplaces and inserts or visit our Auburn, Brunswick, and Yarmouth showrooms.
