ortal-wilderness-traditional-42
Ortal Wilderness Traditional 42

The Ortal Wilderness Traditional 42 is a 42 inch direct vent gas fireplace with the taller, squarer proportions of a classic masonry opening. Ortal's Wilderness burner runs the flame up through the log set instead of along a bed in front of it, so the fire reads much closer to wood than a typical linear gas fireplace. It still has the clean steel frame and large glass Ortal is known for, and it runs on natural gas or propane.

The front is either Ortal's double glass heat barrier, which keeps the outer glass cool enough to touch, or a micro mesh protective screen. Inside you pick brick, Blackridge or black reflective glass panels and one of three log sets. It is a natural fit for a new build or remodel where you want a mantel and a hearth rather than a long linear slot.

What Makes the Wilderness Traditional 42 Different

Wilderness burner. Flames come up through the logs for a wood-fire look.

Traditional proportions. Tall glass sized for a mantel and hearth.

Glass or screen. Double glass heat barrier or micro mesh screen.

App control. Remote, wall switch and Wi-Fi app included.

Key Specifications

Viewing area: 42 11/16 in x 34 1/8 in

Natural gas input: up to 32,163 BTU/hr (79.7% efficiency, Ortal rating)

Propane input: up to 31,400 BTU/hr (79.8% efficiency, Ortal rating)

Venting: 5 in x 8 in coaxial direct vent; Ortal power vent optional

Heat barrier: Double glass or micro mesh protective screen

Interior panels: Black reflective glass, Blackridge, red brick or tan brick

Log sets: Short Driftwood, Valley Oak or Birch

Controls: Remote, Wi-Fi app and wall switch

Weight: 351 lb (double glass), 337 lb (screen)

Input and efficiency figures are Ortal's published ratings.
