ortal-wilderness-44-stand-alone
Ortal Wilderness 44 Stand Alone

The Ortal Wilderness 44 Stand Alone is a freestanding gas fireplace that needs no wall framing, just a gas line and a vent, so it works where a built-in would mean tearing into a finished room. It comes front facing or three sided, each a finished steel cabinet with the fire inside. Ortal's Wilderness burner runs the flame up through the log set instead of along a bed in front of it, so the fire reads much closer to wood than a typical linear gas fireplace. It still has the clean steel frame and large glass Ortal is known for, and it runs on natural gas or propane.

Freestanding does not mean portable. It is a direct vent appliance that gets piped and vented like any other Ortal, and clearances to the wall behind and the floor below come from the manual. It is one of the simpler Ortal installs because there is no wall cavity to build.

What Makes the Wilderness 44 Stand Alone Different

Wilderness burner. Flames come up through the logs for a wood-fire look.

Front facing or three sided. Pick the one that suits where it sits in the room.

No framing. A finished cabinet instead of a wall cavity, so less construction.

App control. Remote, wall switch and Wi-Fi app included.

Key Specifications

Viewing area: 41 5/8 in x 15 5/8 in

Viewing area, three sided: 46 3/4 in x 15 5/8 in

Natural gas input: up to 32,163 BTU/hr (81.4% efficiency, Ortal rating)

Propane input: up to 31,400 BTU/hr (80.2% efficiency, Ortal rating)

Venting: 5 in x 8 in coaxial direct vent

Interior panels: Black reflective glass or standard matte

Log sets: Short Driftwood or Valley Oak (front facing); Short Driftwood (three sided)

Controls: Remote, Wi-Fi app and wall switch

Input and efficiency figures are Ortal's published ratings.
